Emotion Exhibitionism, Video installation 2021

Emotion Exhibitionism is an 11 minute long art film & installation (This excerpt gives us 2 out of the 3 visual movements: Control and Ego Fear). This artwork is an expression of the individual & collective femme & queer lived experience, as well as the trauma and recovery that so often go hand in hand. The work is a mixture of choreography, intuitive dance, and a water & light installation.

More details about the piece:

Phase 1, Control: addresses themes of recovering from religious control & sexual trauma, performative femininity, and dissociation (as well as depression and anxiety). *note the “icebergs” in the water and in the audio

Phase 2, Ego Fear: works through themes surrounding grief & learning how to produce healthy boundaries, deconstructing our internalized misogyny and homophobia as well as our religious beliefs. *note the fluid water in the installation and the waves in the audio

Phase 3, Presence: is about leaning into body neutrality, reconnecting with Spirit, as well as nurturing & coming home to our bodies. And truly loving our own damn queerselves! *note the moving gas flowing on top of the water's surface and the wind and atmospheric air in the audio.

As a viewer, this piece is about witnessing someone’s journey to healing. For us, as the performers it was one big art therapy piece- taking our stories and translating them into the intuitive motions that our bodies needed to process and work through it all. This is a vulnerable and beautiful thing for us to be able to share this with you, thank you!
